UNDERGRADUATE SUMMER PRE-LAW PROGRAMS A growing number of colleges and universities are offering undergraduate summer pre-law programs. These pre-law programs vary greatly as to what students will experience. Some focus on the pre-law process such as writing effective personal statements, critical skills development, and preparation for the law school admissions test (LSAT). Others provide for credit courses and the opportunity to participate in legal internships. Below is a brief description of a few of the most well known undergraduate summer pre-law programs. The Council on Legal Education (CLEO) is the organization best known for providing summer pre-law programs. CLEO was founded in 1968 as a non-profit project of the American Bar Association Fund for Justice and Education. It provides a number of programs available to college students, college graduates, and law school students. Some of the programs are only a weekend long and others last six-weeks. Additionally, many of CLEO's programs are offered at schools throughout the country. If you are interested in spending a summer in New York City Cornell University offers an eight-week long summer pre-law program. This program includes a four-credit course, Introduction to the American Legal System; guest speakers; and an internship at a law firm or in the legal department of a corporation, government agency, or nonprofit organization. The program is available to students who are at least sophomores, and also to college graduates. For those interested in spending the summer in England , The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law offers a summer pre-law program at the University of Oxford 's St Anne's College. The program is five-weeks long and it focuses on English culture and legal institutions, which is the foundation upon which the American legal system was created. This program is available to juniors and seniors. Many other institutions also have such programs.
